THE Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club began their series of social matches in impressive style with a 4-2 win away to Tickenham.

The match was right in the balance until the final game when a crucial putt from Martyn Cuer saw him and his partner Phil Winsley finish their encounter one up. There were similar victories for captain Frank Dance and his partner Chris Appleton and Paul Trigg and Paul Ellis but the most emphatic result came from Noel Chatfield and Bob Townsend who cruised home with a 7&5 win. Chris Champion and Andy Flagg lost 2&1 and Mike Weeks and Rob Wells were beaten 5&4.

Cuer also enjoyed a good day in the March medal event. Despite his low handicap he finished three shots clear of the field with a nett score of 66. Second with a nett score of 69 was Winsley with Ellis third on 70.

The competition for the Stan Brown Cup saw success for Flagg and John Cooper. They won the four ball, better ball event with a nett score of 62. In second place came Winsley and Champion who were one shot behind with Richard Sullivan and Steve Brixey third on nett 67.Gerry Rowell and Chatfield also recorded a nett 67 but were beaten on countback.
