Twenty-six hardy souls, wrapped up for the weather, arrived at the Farrington Park clubhouse on Tuesday, 8th March to compete in the Annual Trubody Trophy. This competition is a Stableford Greensomes, with a lady and a senior man as partners. Bobby Appleby, Ladies Captain and David Elliott, Seniors Captain, organised the draw for partners. As is the custom, the two Captains played together, going out last. The winners from last year, Min Woodward, last year’s Ladies Captain and Phil Thompson, this year’s Vice-Captain were drawn together to defend their title.

The competition was shortened to thirteen holes as the green staff were busy with essential hollow tyning on the greens. This was enough, as the weather turned nasty, with strong wind and rain setting in as Bobby and David finished their round.

A percentage of the prize fund went towards the Captain’s Charity, ‘The Rainbow Trust’. In fourth place were Sue Forshaw and Alan Elkington, with 28 points, third were Margaret Seery and Mike Hedges with 31 points, second were Lally Gibson and Bill Sims with 32 points and the winners of the Trubody Trophy with 33 points were Tracey Watts and Steve Symonds. Congratulations.

Most of the competitors then adjourned to the restaurant to join the family and friends of Eddie Jackman, a fellow golfer, who was celebrating his 90th birthday. A wonderful age.

Farrington Park Ladies are through to the third round of The Mail on Sunday National Golf classic knock-out competition. On Monday, 7th March they won their second round match at Farrington Park against the ladies from Mendip Golf Club. Wins in three of the five matches along with a draw in a further match, resulted in an overall convincing victory for Farrington Park Ladies. The match was followed by a delicious afternoon tea in Farrington Park’s restaurant.

The pairing of Terri O’Shea and Sue Stilwell won the first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes National Pairs Knock-out Competition on Thursday, 10th March. The match took place at Wedmore Golf Club against Wedmore and, after a tight finish, the Farrington Park pair finally won the match by two holes on the eighteenth green.
