It is a perception held by the Farrington Park Ladies that the weather on a Thursday morning is never as good as the weather on a Wednesday when the Senior Men’s Section play.

The theory held true this week, when Thursday morning dawned wet and foggy, a typical Mendip Hills’ winter morning. The early starters in the first Ladies Qualifying Stableford of 2022 had the worst of the weather for two hours before the clouds blew away and the sun shone in a nearly cloudless blue sky.

The majority of the thirty-four strong field found it difficult to score, but eleven players managed to score thirty points or more. Fiona Hassard and Terri O’Shea had two spot birdies at the par 3 10th hole. The field was divided into three divisions to even out the range of handicaps. Division Three was won by Kath Cox, with 37 points, four points clear of second placed Jan Corbett. Barbara Lawson was the runaway winner in Division Two with 35 points; Sue Vaile was second with 29.

Division One scoring was a closer affair, Terri O’Shea’s two spot birdie and birdie four at the par 5 18th helped her to take third place with 34 points, one behind Jane Ball, whose round of 35 points included six pars. Rosi Brown started her round with a birdie at the first hole and then scored steadily, adding a further two spot birdies at the par 3 8th & 15th holes to take first place with a good 37 points. Rosi, Kath, Jane and Barbara earned handicap reductions. Jane Ball
