MORE than 100 men competed in the annual running of the Jubilee Cup at Mendip Golf Club.

Div 3 was won by Charlie Barber with 69 with Selwyn Rees 2nd with 70 after count back from Nick Sharp. Div 2 was won by Steve Cox with 69, Darrin Vowell was 2nd with 70 after count back from Martin Collins and Div 1 went to Jack Vowell with 70, Jonathan Watts was 2nd with 71 after count back from Ben Cox and Rob Edney. However the cup went to 16 handicap James Richards with a fine net 67. The Gross award went to Dan Owen with 72 with Jack Broadway 2nd with 74

Sixty golfers played in the Men’s Mid Week Stableford. Div 1 went to Ben Park with 38 points with Martin Stephens 2nd with 36 and Brad Pike 3rd with 35. Div 2 was won by Richard Hayes with 38, Iain Davidson was 2nd with 35 after count back from Tom Hill and Div 3 went to Ian Vincent with 37 after count back from Andy Griffiths with James Boyce 3rd with 36.

The Ladies Mid Week Stableford was won by Anita Butcher with 35 points with Aimee Sawyer 2nd with 33.

The Alliance B team went down to a narrow 6-8 defeat to Thornbury with wins from Jenny Ahlberg, Chris Down and Maureen Charlton.

The Mixed Open event attracted a full start sheet and saw a win for a team from Weymouth with 86 points. In 2nd place came a team from West Wilts with 85 and in 3rd place were a team from Honiton with 83. The 1st Members Team Prize went to Kerry Pawley, Martin Thatcher, Evie Thatcher and Scott Baker with 85.

More than 100 Seniors competed in the only Medal competition in their Competitions Calendar, a combined event being the long standing Ollie Parfitt Cup, a Net Competition and the Seniors Championship, a Gross event. In the Net results Div 3 went to John Shakesby with a net 68, Kelvin Lum was 2nd with 69 and Geoff Tucker was 3rd with 70.

Div 2 went to Adam Harris with 68 after count back from Paul Wood with Phillip Bissett 3rd with 69 and Div 1 was won by Simon Grant with 68 on count back from Jim Boyd and Nick Parfitt. However the overall winner of the Ollie Parfitt Trophy with a very fine 66 was Alan Williams. Well done Alan.

Turning to the Gross event the new Seniors Champion for 2025 is Martin Stephens with a 1 over par 72, Congratulations to Mr Consistency, Martin who playing off a handicap of 1, is rarely far away from the winners circle.,

Meanwhile, Libbie Dezis has won the 36 hole West of England Ladies Open Championship, this year, for the first time, played off the White Tees. Her total of 157 was just 5 over par for the 2 rounds. Very well done Libbie. Aimee Sawyer was second, just 1 shot behind on count back. Entrants came from far and wide, including from some famous clubs and while Libbie currently plays off a 4 handicap there were 14 Ladies playing off handicaps between 1 and plus 3. Libbie and Aimee continue to represent Mendip in brilliant fashion.
