In his first year as a member of the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club, Alan White has won his first Club Competition. His round of 79 was the best Gross score in the June Medal, and earned him the Rod Bruce Scratch Trophy.
The winner of the June medal was Barry Dugmore, whose nett score of 62 was enough to beat Cyril Blacker on countback. Jack Curtis was third on 63.
The Seniors’ return fixture away to Shortwood Lodge saw them achieve a creditable 3–3 draw. Captain Gerry Rowell and Brian Woodruff got the team off to a flying start with a 5&4 win, while Allen Cheney and Graham Edgell finished one-up. John Bendle and George Underwood and Nick Foxwell partnered by Alan Jones halved their matches, but there were 2&1 defeats for Blacker and White and Mike Ricketts and Malcolm Tucker.
There was not such good news, however, in the second leg of the FosseKing Trophy, with Fosseway losing at home to Kingweston 4.5–1.5. It meant that the visitors won back the trophy with a 9–3 aggregate success. The only winners for Fosseway were Mike Weeks and Foxwell, who won two-up, with Rowell and White gaining a half. Bendle and Underwood and Howard Nowell and Woodruff were defeated 2&1, Cheney and Martyn Cuer lost 6&4, while Blacker and Brian Phelps were beaten 7&5.
