THE annual ‘Away Day’ for the Ladies' Section at Orchardleigh Golf Club took place at Lansdown.
It was organised by Lady Captain Susan Marshall who did a great job, including arranging a perfect day of weather, though a little on the chilly side. The format was a three ball waltz, one, two, three scores to count. The best team score for the day was achieved by Sue Sweet, Lin Handley and Christine Arnold on count back, beating Liz Thomas, Sue Marshall and Mary Ford with the same score.
There is an Away Day trophy given for the best 1st division individual score which went to the Lady Captain with 35 points and the 2nd division trophy went to Sarah Doble with 38 pts. There were two nearest the pin holes. The tricky 5th hole was won by the 1st division player, Jan Light. No 2nd division players made it to the green.
On the 10th Sue Marshall won the 1st division prize and Sarah Doble the 2nd division. The ladies enjoyed had a one course meal afterwards in the clubhouse.
On Sunday, 18th May, The Barwell Masters was played at Orchardleigh on a warm, sunny day. This year's winner was Ann James who came in with an amazing nett score of 66. Trailing behind on nett 72 was Susan Marshall followed by several players on nett 73.
The Orchardleigh Ladies played a Bristol & District Alliance League match at home against Filton and won 8/6. In the Somerset Interclub league Orchardleigh played at home to Mendip Spring and won 4/3.
Orchardleigh Ladies have just played the second round of the Rogers Cup, a county knockout competition. Playing at Weston-super-Mare on a sunny but breezy day they achieved a 4/3 win against Worlebury, so are now through to the 3rd round at The Mendip Golf Club.
