THE third and final John Wain Cup Stableford for ladies at Mendip Golf Club resulted in a win for Allison Rumming with 38 points on countback from Wendy Collins and Edwina Willis.
The overall winner of the cup with 107 points was Julia Phillips. In 2nd place was Edwina Willis and 3rd place went to Jenny Merrett.
The third and final Duchess Cup Stableford was played and the winner with 24 points over the 9 holes was Joan Clark. Cora Pavey was runner up with 20 points on countback from Sue Alcock.
The overall winner of the cup was Joan Clark on 57 points, winning on countback from Elaine M Richardson. Eileen Masters came 3rd with 54.
Seniors Competition Results: More than 100 seniors played in the Seniors Mendip Vase. With the course in excellent condition, only five players bettered 36 points. The winner, with 41 points, was Gareth Collier, who was closely followed by Colin Wiltshire on 40 points. The best visitors score was Gary Weston from The Kendleshire with 39 points.
Match Report : The ladies team of Rosie Brown and Jenny Ahlberg played the semi-final of the Somerset Centenary Plate at Oake Manor near Wellington in Somerset, sadly losing on the 18th hole to Worlebury. However, it has been a tremendous performance throughout the season -and well played ladies!
Mendip narrowly lost the ICL away match to Mendip Spring . The score was 3-4. This is a creditable result, as the course is difficult, and away matches are always harder to win.
The Ladies played a friendly match against Lansdown which resulted in a draw 2.5 / 2.5. Thanks to the catering and greens staff and especially James Taylor who helped sort out all their weekend handicap changes.
The Seniors Avalon team ended the season with a resounding 4-1 home win over Wheathill to ensure that Division One status will be retained for 2027. Team Captain Dave Braithwaite wishes to express his sincere thanks to all those who have contributed and supported the team during the year.
On a day when the forecast threatened thunderstorms, thankfully the weather behaved and on a warm, but humid, afternoon The Mendip Seniors tip-toed over the border into Wiltshire to take on Kingsdown Seniors in another Seniors friendly match.
Considering the conditions, the course was in good condition, but pick-and-place was allowed on the fairways. Following a resounding 6-0 home victory, nothing other than a calamitous capitulation, an aggregate victory was on the cards, and this was comfortably achieved with a well fought out 3-3 half, which meant, of course, 9-3 to The Mendip for the 2026 season!
The Alliance B team played a match at The Mendip against Thornbury Golf Club on Thursday, August 27, and gained a great result, The Mendip 10 points, Thornbury 4 points.
Meanwhile, twenty players competed in Mendip Golf Club’s Social Golf 4BBB Stableford with three pairs scoring 22 points.
The winners on countback of a good competition were Ros Withers and Colin Withers, from Fran Davies and Min Woodward and David and Susan Forshaw.
