Meanwhile, the annual Mendip Cyder Cup was hosted by Golf Club Manager Stuart Disney. This event is where the Club Captains select five other players to represent their section, with the men, ladies, seniors and juniors all playing in groups together - a truly inclusive event, where new friends and memories are made.
The defending champions and going for a record 4th successive win were the men’s team. In a closely fought contest, going down to the final game, the seniors team managed to edge out the men’s team and claim their first ever victory in the Mendip Cyder Cup! Congratulations to Paul Godwin and his ‘green and white army’ who have had a wonderful year.
Autumn had well and truly arrived when the Mendip Seniors welcomed Bath Seniors for a rearranged game, which was postponed during the searing heat of the summer. And conditions could not have been different with a hot sunny day being replaced by a miserable, drizzly, windy and chilly afternoon.
The Bath Seniors arrived with a commanding 5.5-0.5 lead from the first leg, and in challenging conditions, "Godwin's Green and White Warriors" put up a valiant effort, securing a 4-2 win on the day which was, alas, not enough to avoid an aggregate defeat of 7.5-4.5.
This was The Mendip Seniors 38th and final Friendly Match of the 2026 season and 59 different Seniors represented the club. Eighteen matches were won, 14 matches were lost (only one of which was at home) and six were halved. On aggregate, 10 matches were won, 6 were lost and 3 were halved.
