Firstly this week, two corrections to last week’s report! The eagle-eyed amongst you noticed that Margaret Allen had swapped partners

during the Jeff Jones Final. I am pleased to confirm that she played throughout with Chris Bennett and that ‘Bob’ was nowhere to be seen!

The Ladies’ Cups results should have shown that Chris Olds beat Edwina Willis in the Fanstone and that Jenny Merrett beat Fran Davies in the Corson. Now, back to this week’s news!

The Men’s Texas Scramble Medal event was won by R. Millard, Spencer Pocock and B. Rawlings with a fine net 57.2, which was just good enough to hold off D. Braithwaite, S. Morris and C. Huzal, who carded net 57.6, with M. Jones, Troy Chivers and R. Wells third with 59.2.

The Last Monthly Tankard event of the season was run as a stableford and despite reasonable weather and with the course in great condition, scoring remained challenging with CSS rising to 73. Clear winner in Division Three with 36 points was Nigel Hill, who was followed by Alan Fussell, with 33 and Peter Walsh, with 32. Division Two saw the best score of the day with David Kent scoring 39 points, just good enough to beat James Richards with 38 and Clive Mays with 36. Division One was won by Nick Cox with 35 beating Wayne Srawley and Neil Clarke, who both scored 34.

Confirmation has now come through that the Avalon C Team eventually won their Division by 12 points and are therefore promoted. They also won the Shakleford Trophy for the best away scores over the season, in all divisions. Very well done to Malcolm Srawley and his team.

The Ladies’ Vyvyan Clare Trophy event, a Par Competition, was held in dreadful weather when the heavens opened up. This resulted in many players failing to complete their rounds. However, some completed and the eventual winner was Anita Butcher on -3, with Gill Brown second, with -4 and Jean Padfield third, with -6.

The Ladies’ Friendly Team visited Knowle and after a very competitive affair, just went down 2–3. Winners for Mendip were Mary Ainsworth and Gina Howard and Nichola Croft and Liz Rose.

The final Seniors’ Stableford event of the season attracted 60 players. The course was playing well, but the easterly wind brought the first taste of winter to the competitors. Division Two saw a win for Michael Hawkins with 36 points, with Andy Frampton second with 35, just beating Derek Strudwick on countback. In third place in Division One was Robert Davies with 36 points, with Alan Evans-Jones second with 37. However, the round of the day and of his season, was by the now fully restored to health Seniors’ Vice-Captain, Henry Banks, playing off 15 (now reduced to 12) who after a front 9 of 24 points eventually ended up with 43 points. Very well played Henry. Tony Williams
