The weather has at last shown signs of improvement, with frost replacing the depressing rain that has been around for months. Active golf is beginning to re-surface, and the Men of Mendip held a Triple-six Pairs Competition, which attracted a good entry.
Winning with 39 points were Andrew Wells and Mark Necker, and they were closely followed by Ryan Sainsbury and Clive Copp with 38, and Dave Cox and Danny Middle with 37.
An ongoing feature at Mendip these days is the Nearest the Pin challenge run by Stuart and his Pro Shop Team using his Simulator. For a modest investment there are prizes to be won, with a fresh competition commencing most weeks. An excellent way to loosen up before striking that first drive.
The Ladies held a nine-hole stableford, and nineteen was the magic score, with no fewer than seven of the nine prize winners recording that score. Winning Silver Division after count-back was Jenny Merrett, followed by Liz Rose and Chris Olds, all with nineteen.
Bronze Division, again after count back, was won by Diane Stanton, with Mary Ainsworth second and Sandie Roper third, this time on eighteen points. Copper Division was won by Gina Howard, again with nineteen and again after count back from Allison Rumming, with Elaine Richardson third with sixteen.
Seniors’ Captain, Andy Frampton, announced that his Charity this year will be the Motor Neurone Disease Society, and he hopes that the Seniors will help him raise funds this year for this very worthwhile cause.
The main fundraising event will be the Seniors’ Captain’s Charity Day on Friday, 8th June. Andy also advised that Team Sheets will be coming out shortly for the first of the 40+ matches that will take place this year.
It was also announced that there is already a full start sheet of ninety entered into the next Seniors’ competition. With these events filling up so quickly, and full sheets being seen on a weekly basis for both Men’s and Ladies’ events, there is no doubt that if you like competitive golf, then Mendip offers endless possibilities.
