Mendip Golf Club was surprised to be approached by a leading car manufacturer to test trial their version of the driverless car. However, happy to oblige, the vehicle was delivered to the area near to the green keepers’ sheds and was programmed to head down the area between the 9th and 10th hole, to then turn and proceed back to the starting point.
At first, all went well as the car set off on the correct path. However, it then deviated across the rough onto the tenth fairway, then across to the sixteenth hole, where it eventually came to rest in the first of the cross bunkers. So, it is back to the drawing board to find an improvement to the navigation system!!
