The Ladies of Mendip are still holding weekly eighteen-hole Competitions, the latest being a Yellow Ball Bowmaker.
A very close-run competition, with Dee Garnsworthy, Mary Ainsworth and Nichola Croft winning with 109 by a single point from two teams tied on 108.
Whilst the weather prevented the main event the previous week, after some social golf was played, the Ladies were entertained by Ladies’ Captain, Bron Cooper, who put on a most interesting Autumn Flower Arranging demonstration. There were several arrangements to admire, and Bron donated these as prizes in a raffle, with the proceeds going to her chosen Charity, The Teenage Cancer Trust.
The latest and last in the present series of Bullseye Challenges saw a clear win for David Williams with 21 points, with P. Kivi second with thirteen. Next week, it is back to the ever-popular Nearest the Pin Challenge.
The Seniors held their annual dinner and prize-giving, with eighty attending. A daunting task for new chef, Ben, only two weeks into the role. However, he coped very well and produced a fine meal. Speeches, thanks and prize-giving were the order of the day. Results of competitions not already reported on are:
· The Seniors’ Order of Merit went to three-handicapper, Ian Perkins, who also picked up the Stan Frewin Trophy for the best gross score in the Ollie Parfit Cup, the only medal competition in the Seniors’ schedule.
· The Vice Captain/Captain Challenge went to Merlyn Saunders and Adam Spragg.
· The Haydn Jones Trophy for the best overall performances by a Veteran Golfer, in a range of competitions, went to Bob Smallcombe.
· The Harry Bowles Trophy, Seniors’ K.O. Cup, went to Andy Griffiths.
