Mendip’s Men’s Mid-week Tankard saw an excellent entry of 67 competing in lovely weather. With the Course playing so well, scoring was high.

Winning Division One was Philip Leadbeater with a fine 43 points, with Will Waddington second with 37 winning on back-nine from Martin Myers. Division Two went to Stephen Ledger with 41, while Michael Gardiner was second with forty and Club Captain, Paul Smith, was third with 38. Chris Tankard won Division Three with 38 on the back-nine from James Blackstock, with Veteran, Brian Francis, third with 36.

There were some very unusual two-spots. Chris Bryant carded an eagle-two on the 1st; Martin Crooks an eagle-two on the 5th and Ian Tinsley an eagle-two on the 18th!

The Men’s weekend April Tankard saw 96 competing. Winning Division One was Simon Wynn with 38 points. Stephen Cox was second with 37 and Tony Taylor was third with 36 after countback from Richard Salter.

Division Two was won by Leigh Harvey with 39, with James Pitchell second with 38 and Paul Wood third with 34 after countback from Chris White. Division Three saw a return to form from Andy Parfitt, winning with 37, with Peter Grafton second with 35 and Steve Turner third with 33.

The Avalon C Team recorded a fine 5-0 victory over visiting Weston-super-Mare, with wins from Tom Lowe/P. Kivi, Scott Butland/Malcolm Srawley, Tom Chapman/Julian Redpath, Ryan Sainsbury/ Clive Copp and Paul Reakes /Tony Logan.

The Ladies held a Charity Stableford in aid of MacMillan nurses, which raised £135. The overall winner was Jean Padfield with 36 points, with Philippa Browne second with 35, Allison Rumming third with 34 and Anne Hopkins fourth on 32 after countback.

The monthly Seniors Competition attracted a full house of ninety competitors and saw some excellent scoring. Winning Division One was fifteen-handicap, Merlyn Saunders, with an outstanding 43 points including 25 points on the front-nine. His handicap is now twelve! Second after countback was Trevor

Foster with forty, with Stephen Davis third.

Division Two was won by Ewen Gillison with 37 after countback from John Brooksbank, with Jim Mallon third with 36. The Veterans’ prize went to Peter Rumming with 35; John Richardson was second with 32 after countback from John Whyman.

The Seniors played Cumberwell Park on a very chilly and blustery day, and suffered a surprise defeat, 2-5. Winning for Mendip were Steve Cox/Terry Carter, with Bryan Lewis/ Nick Inskip and Selwyn Rees/Simon Brand gaining halves.

It was back to form when the Seniors visited Knowle and came away with a 6-1 victory. Successful for Mendip were Bryan Lewis/ Philip Moores, Colin Davies/ Jim Mallon, Selwyn Rees/ Shaun Rich, Simon Atkinson/Kevin Carmody and John Brooksbank/Alan Snow, with Tony Taylor/ Martyn Russell and Steve Cox/Terry Pavey gaining halves. This was the first taste of Senior matches for Shaun Rich and Alan Snow.

Mendip’s Mixed team visited Bath and suffered a 2-6 defeat. A win came from new member, Philippa Browne, playing with Clive Copp in his first mixed match, with Alan and Sandie Roper and David and Lyn Cox gaining halves.

The RNLI Charity mixed competition saw 24 couples playing on a very cold and breezy day, where the event raised £300 for the Charity. Winners with forty points were Richard Jeffrey playing with his eleven-year-old daughter, Daisy. Runners-up were Sarah James and Glyn Haddock with 39 after countback. Also in the field were Ben Cox with his eleven-year-old daughter, Connie, and all agreed it was great to see these two youngsters playing.

The latest Pro Shop Nearest the Pin saw a tie for first place between John Ellis and Tom Fooks; both shots measured at one-foot, ten inches. Ellen Reakes was third.
