Despite Mendip having seen two months of rain the course has held up very well, a bonus being that all the main greens have remained in play.
Thankfully, the Seniors first event of 2023 saw a dry day for once and one hundred and sixteen competitors played in the four person Texas Scramble. In fourth place with a net fifty seven, losing out on countback were Andrew Cadman, John Ellis, Antony George and Andy Humphries. This left Paul Ashman, Simon Brand, Chris Lindley and Nick Parfitt in third place. In second place with a net fifty six, again missing out on countback were, Robert Berry, Phillip Bissett, Farquhar Ogilvie and Julian Pallister leaving the Competition winners as Michael Anderson, Hugh Graham, Robert Needham and Martin Osborne.
The Pro Shop Stableford was won by Nick Roberts with forty points, Scott Butland was second with thirty nine and Steven Pugh was third after a four way countback, with thirty seven, Greg Wood was fourth, Charlie Barber was fifth and Andrew Robinson was sixth.
The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin went to Paul Jamieson with John Ellis second and Dean Lewer third.
Despite frozen ground, twenty seven Mendip Ladies played a nine hole qualifying stableford. Division One was won by Elaine P Richardson with seventeen after countback from Jo Espley, with Chris Olds third with fifteen points. Division Two went to Dee Garnsworthy with seventeen, Lilian Peel was second with sixteen and Andrea Williams was third after countback with fifteen. Division Three saw a win for Kay O’Connor with nineteen points after a four-way tie. Gina Howard was second, Eileen Masters third and Maggie Brain fourth.
