This week saw a record entry at Mendip for the Mens’ Club Championship. With the maximum 120 places filled, over twenty men were left disappointed when balloted out.

With the course in outstanding order and the weather kind, good scoring was to be expected, especially with an entry of seventeen, Category one players (five handicap and below) taking part.

Day one saw scratch player, Tom Small, in the lead with a one over par 71 with George Morgan and Wayne Black close behind with 72.

Day two saw Tom slip to a 78, with Wayne again scoring well to card a 74. However, no one was going to match George Morgan who scored a magnificent 68, four under CSS for the day. George, who had previously won the Club Championships three times, started his golf as a Junior at Mendip and went on to become a Greenkeeper at the Club. He left Mendip four years ago but has returned this year.

Alongside the Club Championships runs the Frost Cup for the Net Winner. Tom Chapman (6) led on day one with a net 68 with Wayne Black coming second with 69 and Jordan Vaughan, Alan Clarke and Lee Swain all scoring 70.

Day two saw strong performances from a number of players but Lee Swain’s 67 secured him the Cup.

So it is congratulations to George Morgan as Club Champion, once again, and to Lee Swain as the Net Champion. Full Results –
