Competitive golf is now in full swing on the fairways of Mendip. 174 men competed in the April Stableford held over the two weekend days.

Division One was won by Matt Bendall, with 39 points, with Thomas

Richardson second with 39 and Ian Hall third after countback with 36. Division Two went to Trevor Messenger with 39 points with James Abbott second with 36 after countback from Darran Darby-Jones. Division Three was won by Andrew Robinson, with the competition best score of 40 with Jack Smith second with 36 after countback form Wayne Dryburgh and Sam Thatcher.

63 men played in the mid-week stableford. Division One saw an outstanding 38 points from scratch golfer, Tom Lowe and he was

followed by Lee Swain with 36 and Tom Howe 35.

Divison Two was won by Simon Atkinson with 36, Clayton Merrett was second with 35 and Martin Houkes third with 34.

Winner of Division Three was young Henry Lewer with 37 on countback from Derek Bellew with Mark Colbourne third with 34.

39 Ladies played in a eighteen hole stableford with a further three playing a nine hole event which was won by Sue Needham with 19 points. In the 18 hole contest Division One was won by Chris Down with 34 points, Fran Davies was second with 33 and Edwina Willis third with 30. Division Two went to Jo Espley with 36, Anita Butcher was second with 33 and Andrea Williams third with 32. Susy Rudkin won Division Three with an excellent 41 points with Mary Ainsworh second with 34 and young Connie Cox was third with 33.

The Seniors played for a new Trophy, the Memorial Trophy recently presented to remember those who are no longer with us. Each Competitor was reminded to bring their hip flask to drink a toast on the first tee, a good start to the round!

121 Seniors took part. The Trophy was won by Robert Earney with 41 points, three shots clear of the field. Well done Robert. Second was Ken Webster with 38 on back nine from Rod Dyson, Ian Hall was fourth with 37 on back nine from Mike Lill with Martin Myers sixth with 36 points.

The Veteran’s Prize went to Les Kew with a fine 36 points on back six from John Sewart with Sandy Keen third with 34.
