WELLS Golf Club’s 4BBB Open was staged on a sizzling day - but thankfully there was a gentle breeze from the east.
The heat did not stop players getting great scores. The leading score and best home team was 47 pts by David Woodbury & Ian Jones.
Wells GC’s David also had a cracking week, winning the Dalby Cup for the best nett score in the Seniors Championship.
Simon Jackson & Robert Coate were second home team with 46 pts, Paul Hancock & Arron Wickham third with 45pts and John & Joseph Harvey 4th with 44 pts.
The leading visitor’s team was Karen & Robert Preedy, Isle of Wedmore GC, with 45 pts. Michael Lindop & Neil Stephens, West Wilts GC were second with 42 pts and third were Alex Fry & Alex Coking, The Bristol GC with 40 pts.
Wells done to our ladies’ team, Philippa Gowen & Tina Keers, who had an excellent 43 pts, but sadly were not in the prizes.
Meanwhile, Mike Metcalfe has again won the Wells Golf Club Seniors Championship - for the 8th time with rounds of 75 & 77. His usual consistent play, which on the second day saw birdies on 14th, 15th & 16th. He also birdied 15 & 16 on day 1 as well.
David Woodbury was second with rounds of 82 & 78 with three birdies on the second round. The very consistent Paul Lewer was third with 80 & 83.
The Dalby Cup for best nett was won by David Woodbury with two very steady rounds below handicap. (69, 65, 134). Mike Metcalfe and Paul Lewer were second and third with Steve Clark in fourth with nett 142 (70 & 72). Richard Mansfield was fifth with 72 & 71. Darren Wilkins and Tony Harrison took sixth and seventh places with nett 144.
