The Pro shop Stableford event at Mendip attracted 86 entrants and one or two outstanding rounds.

Winning with 45 points was Suzy Rudkin, a score that is sure to get the Ladies’ Handicapping Committee looking at. In second place was Derek Padley, with a fine 42 points. There were three players with 39 points and after countback Simon Grant was third, Jeremy Lawrence was fourth and Tony Scott fifth. There were a further six players on 38 points.

Nearest the Pin this week was won by Malcolm Dawkins.

44 Ladies played in the nine hole Arizona Shuttle Bowmaker Team event. Winning with an amazing score of 49 points were Gina Howard, Allison Rumming, Caroline Simper and Maggie Brain. In second place, again, with an excellent score, were Elaine Richardson, Elaine P Richardson, Liz Rose and Sandie Roper, just beating Lynn Cox, Hilary Rowdon, Sue Needham and Jinhee Page by a single point.

43 Men played in the Pro Shop Saturday event in bitterly cold conditions. There was a four-way tie for first place on 39 points and after countback Wayne Dryburgh was first, Chairman of Competitions, Ryan Sainsbury, was second, Nigel Coleman was third and Matt Lambert was fourth.

The Green’s Team have been very busy this past week with their chainsaws continuing their taking down of several pine trees.

None of the trees removed are indigenous to the Mendips and the main purpose is to open up the light to certain tees and greens which is bound to have a beneficial effect on those key areas of the course.

Over the next few weeks members will see some extensive tree planting on the two new holes which are still scheduled, weather permitting, to open for play during April. This really is something to look forward to and the new holes are bound to enhance even further Mendip’s reputation as being a leading course in the County.
