At last there appears to be an end to the constant wet weather, with the course at Mendip drying out well and with that, a welcome return to playing on the majority of the Greens. Hopefully the Greens team will shortly be able to commence their remedial work to start firming up the surfaces.
The Ladies held a Bowmaker Competition, with drawn teams giving a good mix of handicaps to each team. In second place, on 70 points, were the team of Chris Down, Ellen Reakes and Val Dixon, who beat, on countback, Edwina Willis, Jean Padfield and Cora Pavey. However, clear winners with 79 points, were Vi Hayes, Chris Atkinson and Diane Stanton.
Twelve-year-old Ellen Reakes, a member of the second-placed team, so nearly recorded her first hole in one, with her tee shot on the seventeenth finishing inches from the hole.
The Ladies Winter League results have been announced with a win for Gina Howard and Elaine Kitchenham, with Liz Rose and Eileen Masters second and Mary Ware and Allison Rumming, third.
The Seniors visited local rivals, Wells, and found the course in good order. On this occasion, Mendip found the opposition too strong, with Wells running out winners by five matches to two.
Mendip’s points came from a win for Henry Banks and Simon Brand and halved matches from James Boyce and Bob Smallcombe and Seniors’ Captain, Andy Frampton, playing with John Brooksbank.
The latest Pro Shop Nearest the Pin Challenge saw a win yet again for Club Captain, Richard Jeffery, with young Ellen Reakes in second place and Wayne Black, third.
