The Ladies won their Mail on Sunday match against Burnham and Berrow in a close competition. Glynis Slater, Kim Lord, Sue Wells, Sue Hockey and Jill Bocquet fought against strong winds and a competent team to finish 3½ to 1½.

The final of the Men’s Winter Foursomes was played in chilly but dry conditions. Rank outsiders, David Gibbon and Tony Harrison gave the winning pair a run for their money, but Gary Nutt and Tim Taylor were victorious, winning the match at the seventeenth hole.

Wells Senior Men’s first home match was against Mendip Golf Club Seniors. Mendip drew ahead 3–1, but the Wells pairings of Geoff Ead/Tony Harrison and Ian McArthur/

Len Sweales came in at the end with wins to halve the match. A fair result. All matches had an early finish, none going to the eighteenth.

On Sunday, 3rd April the Wells Golf Club Stragglers met to compete for the Yellow Ball Team Trophy. In all, 23 players with Club Captain, Vice-Captain and Chairman, invited (as paying guests) played in warm, dry conditions. The winning team were: Bill McCollum (achieved a Hole In One on the fifth), Gary Leigh and Bill Levell with a score of 97 points. Nearest the pin in two was Terry Pearce, who donated his winnings to Heads Up, our locally based Charity of the Year.
