The new golfing season is now getting underway for the Orchardleigh Ladies section.

On Shrove Tuesday, there was a fun nine hole yellow ball competition, played in teams of three. The yellow ball in each team is played in rotation and any stableford points scored by the yellow ball are doubled and added to the other two scores. If the yellow ball is lost, then no more doubling of scores. The winning team were Anne Regler, Christina Francis and Marion Underhill, with 53 points. The competition was followed by pancakes in the clubhouse and there was a raffle, which raised £80 for Dorothy House, this year’s Captain’s charity.

During the same week, the Captain versus Vice Captain Cup challenge took place on a sunny, but windy day. The format was an eleven-hole individual stableford competition in two teams of fourteen players. Marion Underhill, the Lady Captain, had the strongest team, scoring several more points than the Vice Captain’s team. So Marion was presented with the cup by her Vice Captain, Lorraine Collings. Loes de Kleuver won the best individual score with nineteen points. A cottage pie lunch was enjoyed by everyone after the golf and the draw was done for all the summer club knock-out competitions.
