Rain ruined the January medal competition in the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club, with many of the competitors coming in before completing their round.

However, a number of hardy players kept going and it was the General Secretary, Alan Jones, who came out on top with a nett 57. Paul Davies was second with a nett 60, with Brian Woodruff third on 64.

The Medal was followed by the AGM of the Seniors’ section. Most of the officers of the club agreed to carry on in their positions, but Pete Fitch has stood down as Medal Secretary and Martyn Cuer is no longer Vice-Captain.

Doug Lane will combine his duties as Competition Secretary, with that of Medal Secretary, while Brian Woodruff is the new Vice-Captain to support Skipper, Gerry Rowell.

Rowell and Treasurer, Geoff Hallett, gave their respective reports with Secretary, Jones, reviewing the year’s activities. He said that the club had won eight of their twenty social matches and put up a good performance in the Somerset Rose Bowl before losing 3–2 to a strong Mendip side.

The club will no longer be playing Minchinhampton, Wincanton or Shortwood Lodge. Jones said the club would miss meeting up with old friends.

The Open in July was another big success and the Royal British Legion event in aid of the Poppy Appeal, organised by Doug Lane, had been very well supported. The away day this year is on August 6th and will be arranged by Jones and Hallett.

Jones paid tribute to the work of the full-time greenkeeper, George Bidmead, who had done an excellent job and had produced much improved greens. Jones said that members were fortunate to have a course that can be played on all year round with no restrictions.

The Seniors then welcomed Handicap Secretary, Dave Josham, who outlined the changes to the handicap system which would come into operation in 2020.

The election of officers resulted as follows: Captain, Gerry Rowell, Vice-Captain, Brian Woodruff, Treasurer, Geoff Hallett, General Secretary, Alan Jones, Competition and Medal Secretary, Doug Lane, Fixture Secretary, Howard

Nowell, Seniors’ Open Secretary, Gerry Rowell, Press Officer, Malcolm Tucker.
