This year’s Cyder Cup, a two-day event played at Wells and Farrington, was very successful, with record numbers attending (152).

Both courses played very well, with many excellent comments about the whole event. Congratulations must go to both sets of Greens Staff who worked hard to present both courses beautifully and the team of volunteers who ensured the smooth running. The winners were Baden Wilkinson and Chris White of Mendip.

The Ladies second ICL Away match was at Mendip. We were greeted by the well-known Mendip mizzle, but playing onto unseen fairways and greens did nothing to prevent a resounding victory for Wells (5 ½–1 ½ ). Well done Jill Bocquet, Tina Davies, Cath Levell, Katrina Foots and Gill Magrath, who all won their matches with Phyllis Lewison halving hers.

Club selection for the Ladies’ King Castle Cup is paramount as only three are allowed plus a putter. Marilyn Cole chose well and played well to win with 33 points. Sandy Heath was runner-up on countback.

Dean Hamilton’s Captain’s Day was eagerly anticipated. There were 11 two spots on the day and the winners were Tom Ball and Harry Ball with a staggering 48 points. In second place were Timothy Taylor & Nigel Pring with 44 points.
