The Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club celebrated another

enjoyable season with a Presentation Lunch at the Centurion Hotel, Midsomer Norton last Sunday.

Illness sadly prevented retiring Seniors Captain, George Underwood, from

attending, but his season’s report was read by his successor, John Appleton.

He reflected on a year in which the Seniors’ section had once again experienced an imbalance of results in their social matches. At home, they won eight of their eleven matches, but away from home, had just two halved matches to show for their efforts. The highlight of the year had been the victory in the Triangular contest, with Minchinhampton and Shortwood Lodge.

Underwood thanked committee members and competition organisers and paid tribute to Gerry Rowell and Terry Button, who organised a successful Seniors Open. George Bidmead and the team were thanked for keeping the course in good condition throughout the year.

The Player of the Year and recipient of the Roger Tabb Trophy, Phil Moody, had an outstanding season.

Malcolm Tucker was Club Champion, after winning the Rupert Moore Cup, and

Graham Edgell won both the Winter League Shield and the Don Shearn Stableford Trophy. Doug Howarth captured the Captain’s Trophy, Henry Thomas won the Ted Cottle Trophy and Pat Cray, the Mark Bridges Cup. Bob Smith came out on top in the Colin Eaton Three Club Challenge, while John Williams was the leading Fosseway representative in this year’s Seniors Open.
