The Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club welcomed Edna Shearn to the club to present the awards for the Stableford event held in memory of her late husband, Don.

The winner of the Don Shearn Trophy was Noel Chatfield, who beat Mike Ricketts on countback after both players had recorded 42 points. John Waters also needed countback to claim third place from Martyn Cuer, after both players had finished on 38 points.

With Captain, Gerry Rowell, away on holiday, Cuer then took charge of the team for the Away fixture with Kingweston, and although he and his partner, Frank Reeves, lost 2&1, the overall result saw Fosseway halve the match three all.

It was the first leg of the competition for the FosseKing Trophy and sets the contest up nicely for the return fixture at the Centurion on June 11th.

There were a number of close encounters in the first meeting, with Howard Nowell and Doug Lane 2&1 winners and both Brian Phelps with Alan White and Ricketts with Alan Vowell finishing one up. Ivan Love, in his first game for the club, lost 4&2 in partnership with John Smart, and Brian Woodruff and Malcolm Tucker were beaten 3&1.
