THE lovely playing conditions meant that scoring was low when 125 men competed in the Jock Callaghan Medal at Mendip Golf Club.

Div 3 went to Chad Patel with a fine 65 with Tony Taylor 2nd with 66 and Paul Godwin was 3rd with 68. Div 2 was won by Nick Roberts, again with 65, Adrian Cross was 2nd with 67 and Andy Laing was 3rd with 68 after count back.

Div 1 was won by Peter Grafton with 68, Brad Pike was 2nd with 69 and Ben Cox was 3rd with 72. However the overall winner after count back with 65 was Cliff Hall. Winner of the Gross Prize was Dan Owen with 74 with Phil Leadbeater runner up with 78.

Sixty-seven competed in the Mid Week Stableford which saw a win for Jonny Beech in Div 1 with 38 points, Julian Redpath was 2nd with 36 and Dan Owen 3rd with 35. Div 2 went to Tom Young with a best of the day score of 40, Chris White was 2nd with 39 and John Parham was 3rd with 37 after count back. Div 3 went to Steve Lake with 39, Peter Rumming was 2nd with 38 and Ryan Davis was 3rd with 37 after count back.

The Ladies played for the John Wain and Duchess Cups - both competitions are played over three dates, the former an 18 hole event and the latter a 9 hole event for Ladies over a certain age!

The 18 hole event went to an amazing 44 points scored by Debbie Godwin with Louise Scott 2nd with 42, Isobel Panton was 3rd with 41 after count back from Suzie Howe. The best score in the Duchess Cup was by Elaine Richardson with 20 points, Eileen Masters was 2nd with 18 and Margaret Hawker was 3rd with the best of 4 scores of 17. The Ladies 9 hole event went to Chris Olds with 18 points.

The Ladies Friendly team enjoyed a fine 3½-½ win over Enmore with wins for Ali Kay/Lillian Peel, Debbie Godwin/Annette Jobbins and Pat Roscoe/Min Woodward and a half from Sue Needham/Bridget Rylance. However the Alliance B team were not so successful, going down to a heavy defeat against Lansdowne.

The Seniors Avalon team kept up their fine form with a 3-2 win away to T & P with wins from Simon Brand/Tony Scott, Gary Quin/Kevin Carmody, John Stembridge/Dave Golledge.

The Seniors Friendly team gained a very creditable half away to B & C with wins from Steve Cox/Roland Greenway, Steve Regler/Derek Bellew and Keith Gadsden/Paul Godwin, Keith maintaining his 6 year unbeaten record (only his 2nd match in that time)! However the team then met defeat 1½ - 4½ when visiting Sherborne, the win coming from Bryan Lewis/Ian Vincent and a half from Nick Inskip/Paul Wood.

Fourteen couples played in the Mixed Triple 6 event which after a very competitive affair the winners were Pippa Brown/Clive Copp with 44 points but only after count back from Lillian and David Peel. Jinhee Page/Keith Gadsden were 3rd with 42 and Jenny and Paul Merrett were 4th with 40 after count back.

The Juniors Competition saw a win for Lauren Morris with a remarkable 46 points with Tildee Rocker-Cook 2nd with 42 and Harper Howerd 3rd with 37.
