This year’s Club Championships were accompanied with some superb weather for the two day, 36 hole event. The greenkeepers produced a challenging course with extremely quick greens reaching up to 11 on the Stimpmeter.

Wells Golf Club Seniors Captain’s Day, hosted by Dave Hayward, was a bowmaker and an individual stableford. The winners, Alan Elkins, Tony Duffin and Colin Wilde amassed an amazing 95 points, way ahead of second placed Peter Ramsay, Vic Rossiter and Len Sweales with 87 points.

Not surprisingly, the individual winners came from the winning team: Duffin, winner of the Captain’s Salver, had 48 points and Wilde, runner up, had 41. Jack Baillie was third with 39 points.

Wells’ Senior men visited Filton where they lost 2/5. They fared better at home against Sherborne, winning with a comfortable 4/2, but this was over shadowed by a hole in one on the fifth by John Howes, of Sherborne. Good fun and good competitive golf was enjoyed by all.

The Ladies’ Alliance team gained a full 11 points from their match versus Shirehampton, with wins from Sue Wells, Kim Lord, Jill Bocquet, Erica Klim and Sandy Heath.

The Captains’ Extravaganza, on Saturday, 20th August is when Paul Barrington will give us his Golf Show.

There will be a Cow Pat Splat too, all to raise funds for Heads Up. More details on the website.
