Gill Magrath, Ladies Captain, congratulates the winning team at the March Madness event, Barbara Harris, Cath Levell and Janice White.
The Wells Golf Club Triple Six competition attracted a large field playing each six holes to a different format. First were Martin Barnes and Richard Birch, 43 points, followed by Barry Keys and Tony Baker, 41 points on count back.
The ladies enjoyed a bowmaker competition for the March Madness meeting. A large number of teams wrapped up well against the chill weather, with Barbara Harris, Janice White and Cath Levell taking first prize, with 77 points.
The Avalon team opened their season away at Cricket St. Thomas with a halved match.
Alan and Sam Todd fought out a tight half, with their opponents finding the greens more to their liking. Next, Simon Jackson and Pete Walker found the going tough and succumbed to a 2&1 loss.
Pascal Norman and James Church found themselves two down after three, but they fought back to win 3&1.
Mark Western and Ian Burr were two down after seven, but came back strongly winning 2&1. John Baker and Colin (The Rocket) Mantle never had the best of days, losing 6&4.
The club Past Captains organised a lunch for the many club members who give up a lot of their time to carry out much of the manual and building work, such as building stone entrance pillars to both car parks, weed feeding and planting up rockeries – and all done with a smile on their faces.
The lunch, organised by Richard Booth, was a thank you on behalf of the club and was rounded off by Handicaps in Harmony, with a musical accompaniment provided by John Slater.
