Steve Heath and Stuart Gowen took on Mike Magrath and Tony Harrison in the Seniors’ Winter Foursomes Final. The match started as a very much one-way affair, with Heath and Gowen playing strongly and soon achieving a three-hole lead.

Magrath and Harrison hung on and started making in-roads, squaring the match on the 17th. Going in to the last hole with both sides even, Heath and Gowen refound their form and came out worthy winners in what was a very competitive and close fought match.

In the Seniors’ Plate Final, Nick Wilson and Andy Williams gained a 3&1 victory over Bill McCollum and Bill O’Callaghan.

Mendip mizzell, birds singing and primroses out in full bloom; so was this a nature walk? No! It was the Stragglers’ opening competition for 2018.

Two Teams of seven, led by Richard Mansfield and Craig McConnell played a competitive-but-friendly yellow ball competition, with Mansfield being the winning Captain. Scores were McConnell’s team 152 points and Mansfield’s team (after a lot of clubhouse adjustments) 170.

The Trophy was presented by our own Bernhard Young, with Terry Searle running the charity which was won by Jon Mackness. All in all, a successful and very pleasant Sunday afternoon.

Sandy Heath and Sue Wells represented the club in the Bristol and District Scratch Foursomes, playing two players with handicaps of one and seven. The Wells pair played well in damp and breezy conditions.

The mixed friendly versus Mendip Spring at home was enjoyed by all taking part, though the visiting team played better than the home team, with just George and Janice White halving their match. Club Chairman, Mike Magrath, and his wife, Gill, celebrated their wedding anniversary that day, and Andrew Boatswain played in his first mixed match.
