The prestigious Cowern Trophy resulted in a close finish with Stuart Davis and Janice White winning, just one point ahead of George Davis and Barbara Harris. This foursomes, drawn competition is a popular fixture in the calendar and was played in perfect conditions with the course recovering well from the recent dry spell.

The Seniors continue to enjoy their matches on courses gradually returning to normal after the drought. Unfortunately, there has also been a drought of wins recently, as we lost our away matches at Worlebury and Kingsdown, and drew our home match against Mendip Spring in between.

The winning pair at Worlebury was Len Sweales and Ian Mills (two up), with Mike Gee and Ron Hancock getting a half. The remaining four pairs all lost, albeit quite closely in most cases. It was a similar story at Kingsdown, with wins from Steve Bocquet and Ron Hancock (4&2) and Bill Carruthers and Steve Dent (one up) and a half from Bill O’Callaghan and John Watson.

The home match against Mendip Spring ended in a 3-3 draw, with wins from Len Sweales and Ron Hancock (4&2), Peter Leverick and Allan Thompson (3&2) and Geoff Dyer and John Moxon (one up). Dyer was making his seniors debut this season (as was Bill Carruthers in the Kingsdown match) and both made winning contributions. There was also a surprise debut for Craig McConnell, who was persuaded to step in at five minutes notice, and with partner George West only just lost (one down) on the 18th!

In the Bristol and District League game at Bristol and Clifton, Baden Wilkinson & Mike Vincent paired up for the first time and had a tough match, going down 5&4.

Sam Todd joined father Alan in the second match and holed a monster putt on the eighteenth to win one up.

Will Thompson & Bill McCollom won one up; Ian Burr & Glen Crocker won 5&3; Tim Harris & Nick Wilson had a comfortable 5 & 3 victory. Wells won 4-1.
