Wells’ Seniors team took on Farrington Park in the final of the Seniors’ Somerset Bowl, played at Mendip.

The weather was amazing, setting off the matches under a blue sky. The wind got up as time went on, and the temperatures dropped, making the difficult conditions no easier.

First out, Nick Carter and Mike Magrath, and second out, Bill McCollum and Andy Williams, made short work of their opponents, both pairs winning 4&3.

The middle match, featuring Martin Barnes and Steve Clark, against formidable opponents, quickly went Farrington’s way, as they went four-up. The Wells players fought back gamely, and eventually had a fantastic half.

Fourth out, Tim Harris and Martin Waller, had a mountain to climb, giving nine shots. They were up to the job and triumphed 2&1.

Last out, Captain, Glen Crocker, and Nick Carter, had a comfortable afternoon, never behind and winning 5&4 to clinch the match quite quickly.

This meant that Wells won the match 4.5 to 0.5 and became 2018 Somerset Seniors’ Bowl winners – the second time the club have won the trophy.

Elsewhere, eight pairs took part in the Ladies versus Seniors match, which was a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford format. The winners were the Ladies by three games to one.
