Wells Golf Club Past Captains held their annual triangular fixture against Worlebury and Enmore Park Golf Clubs, playing for the magnificent Centenary Bowl.

Fortunately, we managed to find good weather in between the rain we’ve had in the past fortnight. The result was a win for Worlebury with an average of 33 stableford points for their team. Wells were runners-up and Enmore third.

Wells’ Seniors played in the second round of the Somerset Seniors’ Bowl recently. They took on Weston-super-Mare at Worlebury on a cool and windy day.

Wells had to use the depth of their squad as a number of players were unavailable through injury and loss of form. Fortunately, Weston were in the same boat and it made for an evenly matched competition.

Steve Clark and Colin Mantle continued their winning ways with an excellent 3&2 victory to begin proceedings. Dave Hayward and Glyn Hallett had a hard-fought match in which they prevailed one-up. Steve Rowse and Alan Elkins narrowly lost 2&1 in the third encounter.

In-form Nick Carter and Malcolm Terry romped home 4&2, which was just as well, as the normally reliable last pairing of Glen Crocker and Nick Wilson lost their match on the 16th hole. Wells’ 3-2 victory was hard fought but pleasing.

A good number of teams played in the Mixed 4bbb Open. The visiting teams were very complimentary about the course.

The first three places went to teams from Hamptworth, Long Ashton and Cumberwell Park, with Mike Metcalfe and Erica Klim being the first home team.
