The Ladies’ Alliance team took on Bath B at home on a warm afternoon for the penultimate match of the season.

Wells’ Ladies recorded a great win, logging six wins out of seven, giving them twelve points. Stress-free wins for Sue Wells, Tina Davies, Jill Bocquet, and Cath Levell were less nerve-racking than the final two matches out: Erica Klim and Janice White, both of whom had hard-fought battles for their points. The team is looking forward to the final game of the season.

The Chapman Trophy, a competition for the more ancient of the Seniors, was played in lovely weather and was enjoyed by everyone who took part. The course was quite difficult as the pins were in the same position as for the Cyder Cup played the day before.

However, there were two very good scores, and the winners were Richard Gould and Piers Dalby with 41 points. They were closely followed by Kelvin Parsons and Len Sweales on 40 points.

With Weston just needing to win one match out of the game to gain promotion and the Stragglers struggling at the bottom of the League, they must have felt confident of promotion. Unfortunately for them, the Wells team were not feeling very charitable and upset them by winning 5-0!

With a team dropping out of the top division, we are hopeful they may change it to just one-down, which would mean we could still be visiting Weston again next season; we will have to wait and see!

Mike Metcalfe and Malcolm Terry – after a rare defeat in their last outing – were back to winning ways, 3&2. Simon Jackson and Jason Huck managed four birdies between them, which helped them secure a 3&2 win.

Glen Crocker and Nick Carter won 3&2, with Nick playing some very good golf, upsetting their opponents. Nick Wilson and Ian Nicol had a good day and strolled in, winning 5&4. Ian Burr and debutant, Sam Hayter, gelled well and brought home the dominant win with 3&2.
