Wells’ Men’s team for the national knock-out competition, Mail on Sunday, were victorious in their first round fixture against Wheathill, which was played there. Wells won overall, 3–2, in a close match.

First out was Will Thompson, who, after a close contest, lost 3&2. Simon Jackson was next and he held his nerve to win on the last hole after being four up with five to play. Third out was the youngster, Sam Todd, who was three up with four to play and halved on the last hole. Next was Phil Slater, who was down most of his match, but finished all square. Last out was Pascal Norman, who was up all the way round and won with a strong 5&4.

The Ladies Section at Wells Golf Club enjoyed a Winter Away Day at Tall Pines Golf Club recently, organised by Tina Davies, Ladies Vice-Captain. The crisp winter conditions helped Chris Gee and Tina Davies to a clear victory with points in this Four Ball Better Ball competition.

Club Captain, Erica Klim, organised a February Bowmaker, where there was a draw for partners. The competition was hotly contested and the team coming in first with a very creditable 66 points were Mike Magrath, Bill McCallum and Jon Mackness. In second place were Steve Guy, Aidan Guy and Richard Sheard. This competition is part of the Captain’s Points accumulator, which will run throughout the year.
