Mendip men competed in a stableford event this week, with good scoring still proving challenging.
Division 1 went to Joe Reilly with 39 points, Nick Cox was second with 38 and Rob Edney third with 37. Roland Greenaway took Division 2 with an excellent 42, John Harvey was second with 38 and Simon Wynn was third with 37. Division 3 saw a win for Kyle Shepherd with 41, Craig Drew was second with 40 and Paul Smith was third with 36.
The final of the Hospital Plate saw a win for Past President Colin Davies beating Simon Grant 1 up. Interestingly the trophy, originally named the Casualty Cup, was actually donated by Colin and it appears to be the first example of a trophy being won by the person who donated it!
The Mid Week Stableford saw a win in Division 1 for Michal Rokitowski with Rob Edney second, Division 2 was won by Ken Webster with Rob Crew second and Division 3 went to Paul Drew with Chris Bryant second.
Nearest the Pin was won by Dean Lewer with Scott Butland second and Steve Davis third.
Division 1 of the Ladies Stableford was won by Vi Hayes with 29 points, Lulu Carolan was second with 28 and Lynne Vowles was third with 27. Divison 2 went to Val Dixon with a fine 36 points bearing in mind the very wet conditions with Dee Garnsworthy second with 26 points and Anne Collins was third with 23 after countback.
The Ladies Alliance A Team had convincing back to back wins against Mendip Spring. At home they won 13-1 with wins for Ellen Reakes, Aimee Sawyer, Marion Speed, Fran Davies and Jenny Merrett with Lynne Vowles gaining a half.
One match was a walk over to Mendip as the opposition were a player short. When away to the same club, Mendip won 10-4 with wins from Aimee, Jinhee Page, Lynne Vowles and two of the youngsters Ffion Richardson and Connie Cox. The team have finished third in Division 3 of the Bristol & District Alliance.
The Alliance B Team won 8-6 against Saltford with wins from Jenny Merrett, Vi Hayes, Lyn Cox and Chris Olds and will stay in Division 5 next season. The ICL Team halved their match at Tall Pines, wins from Chris Williams, Ali Kay and Susy Rudkin and a half from Lynne Vowles.
An apology from an earlie report. In the Senior Mendip Vase open event, Derek Bellew won the Hugh Campbell Cup for the best score recorded by an over 80-year-old player. Well done Derek!
The Seniors beat Clevedon 4½-1½ victorious for Mendip were Gary Quin/Andy Griffiths, Stephen Cox/Martin Sutherland, Steve Davis/Alan Snow, John Stembridge/ Norman Squire with the half coming from Martyn Russell/John Brooksbank. They followed this up with a 5-1 win over Weston, wins coming from Ian Hall/Robert Miller, Gary Hollister/Paul Wood, Steve Davis/Ian Whittamore, who was making his debut for the Team, Nigel Brokenshire/Terry Carter and Andy Humphries/Tony George.
