Bedminster won the toss in this opening league game of the season and chose to field first. Phillips struggled to find line and length and gave Norton a good start, with sixteen coming from his first over, twelve of them wides and no-balls.

His second over was an improvement, however, and Harvey found one too good for him as the first wicket went down at twenty. Alex Lear and Martin Cox built a partnership of 43 at a run a ball, before Lear was adjudged LBW to Knapp.

Cox reached his fifty from only 53 balls, as he shared a stand of 71 with Dean Clifton, before he was caught in the deep for 59. Clifton was out just short of a half-century and the innings lost its momentum at this point. Carter and Khan bowled accurately, as did Phillips, whose second spell yielded only seventeen runs from seven overs. Nick Potter held the second half of the innings together and, although only 75 runs were scored from the second 25 overs, Norton gained maximum batting points in posting a score of 225.

Bedminster's innings was soon in trouble at 9–2 as Henry Voigt claimed his first league wicket and Andrew Cox bowled the dangerous Elphick. North and Bhaumick negotiated the next few overs, but the introduction of Pang produced an unplayable delivery to dismiss North and the bowler also accounted for Bhaumick. Carter and McCormack steadied the ship with a partnership of 43 for the fifth wicket, but the bowling and fielding maintained a high standard and the scoring rate was kept firmly in check. Carter was dismissed for thirty in the 33rd over and the remaining Bedminster batsmen managed to secure a batting point before Lear mopped up the tail with 2–18.
