Mendip Hockey Club held its annual awards dinner at the Mendip Golf Club on Saturday. Thanks were extended to events organiser, Sammy Chivers and her team, who worked tirelessly to ensure a great evening’s entertainment.

Chairman, Andy Baird, thanked the committee for their hard work this term, and also oversaw the presentation of the annual trophies. Ladies’ First Team Player of the Year – Jess Smith; Captain’s Award – Sammy Chivers. Ladies’ Second Team Player of the Year – Jess Baird; Captain’s Award – Oenone Bodman-Harris. Ladies’ Third Team Player of the Year – Georgia Price; Captain’s Award – Lucy Davis. Men’s First Team Player of the Year – Liam Young; Captain’s Award – Chris Hampshire. Men’s Second Team Player of the Year – Keelan Shearn; Captain’s Award – Barry Sewel. Ladies’ Young Player – Katie Riches, Men’s Young Player – Jacob Stocker, Golden Stick Award – Sharon Watts, Alan Hall Trophy – Julian Collins, Umpire of the Year – Hayley Young, Club Person of the Year – Max Spalton.

The Ladies’ First team finished a creditable fourth place in the WCWHL East Division this season, whilst the Seconds held off the threat of relegation to finish eighth in Brunel One, and the Thirds maintained their position in Brunel Three with a sixth place finish. The Ladies’ section are currently enjoying the Mendip and District Summer League, with all three teams represented.

The Men’s First team had an excellent season, finishing a very close second in West Central Division, with the second team securing their place in West Central Two, finishing in eighth position. The Junior Section continues to flourish, with a notable number of senior players having learnt their trade in the junior ranks.
