Well, what a great week that was! We started off with a win on Monday afternoon, when the bowlers of Writtle Bowls Club, Chelmsford, joined us for a friendly game. This was the first stop on their annual tour and we hope the remainder of their tour was as pleasant as the afternoon they spent with us. I think all our members thoroughly enjoyed the visit and I can assure all the members of Writtle Bowls Club that they will always be very welcome at Norwest.

Our Ladies had a very successful week with wins all the way! We had two Wild League games, the first on Tuesday, away at Frome Selwood. It was a great game and although the black clouds gathered above and a few drops of rain fell, it didn't manage to dampen the atmosphere of a really friendly game and the weather couldn't dampen our Ladies spirits either, as they managed to scoop the whole twelve points on offer.

The second league game was played at home on Thursday, when the Ladies of Shepton Mallet joined us for yet another game under black clouds. Once again, it was a brilliantly friendly game played against old rivals with much chat and laughter on the green and an 11–1 win for Norwest. As if that wasn't enough, just to add to the Ladies successes, three of our girls, Val Bryant, Jackie Billing and Anne Wilkinson, managed to take top honours when they went into Bath to take part in Alexandra Park Bowls Club's Open Triples competition on Wednesday. They had a super day and came away with a well- deserved win. Well done girls!

Our Men didn't have such a good week. Their only game of the week was at home against Victoria Park and they turned up all bright eyed and bushy tailed to play, but the opposition didn't! Apparently, the game had been cancelled, but there was a breakdown in communications. However, the boys had an enjoyable afternoon when they had a friendly match between themselves. Another great game was had on Saturday, when our old friends from Bath Post Office joined us at Norwest for a truly friendly game, played with all the traditional values of bowls.

On Sunday, the ducks were out in force once again at Norwest, but this time it was nothing to do with the weather! In fact, we had a super day for our first Norwest Fun Day. It was great to see so many friends and family members at Norwest enjoying themselves alongside club members. It was good to see new faces on the green having a go – future members?

There were lots of games, including 'Where's the Jack' and, of course, catching those pesky ducks! We also had a tombola, cake stall, ice creams, raffle and barbecue. It was a very successful afternoon and raised over £200 towards club funds. There are far too many people to thank everyone individually, so to anyone who did anything to help, we would like to say a great big Thank You. We hope you all enjoyed the afternoon and any feedback will be welcome.
