Norton welcomed local rivals, Avon, to Norton Down after two games in deepest Gloucester. For once, the sun was shining, but typically, there was a strong wind down the hill.

Norton playing into the elements in the first half and pressured Avon's line on a number of occasions but could only score a penalty goal by Ben Taylor. Early in the second half, a defensive mistake following a speculative kick allowed Avon to extend their lead to 12–3.

Playing now with the wind at their backs, the home side set up camp in the Avon half. Strong running from Miller and Mitchard set up good attacking opportunities, but the support was slow in coming.

This allowed the visitors to slow the ball down and their defence held strong. Norton crossed the line twice, but on both occasions, the ball was adjudged to be held up.

A try by Captain Matthew Denning, following a fine driving maul late in the half, brought renewed hope of a win, bringing the total to within one score, 15–10.

Unfortunately, a penalty in the final moments allowed Avon to take the point difference to eight, depriving Norton of the losing bonus point.
