The Mixed Section played a Texas Scramble in teams of four on Sunday, 2nd March.
In a Texas Scramble, all players tee off, then select the best drive and mark its position (within six inches) with a tee peg (not nearer the hole). The other players retrieve their balls, whilst the player whose ball has been chosen plays the next shot. The other players then play their shots from within six inches of the tee peg (not nearer the hole). The process is then repeated and play continues from each chosen position until the ball is holed. A minimum of four tee shots per player must be used, adding strategic tactics to the choice of which drive to select as the drive to be taken on each hole. At the end of the round, the total number of shots taken for each hole is added together. The strokes received are subtracted to give a total net medal score for the round. The winning team is the one with the lowest score.
Kevin Brimble (Men's Captain), Roger Farr, Clare Salter and Jane Ball won with a gross 67, nett 55.7. Rob Thain, Pierce O'Shea and Gail Proctor, who played as a three, came second with a gross 79, nett 60. Having played probably one of the wettest rounds in the history of the mixed section, thanks to incessant rain, participants were grateful to be greeted in the Clubhouse by a delicious, steaming hot carvery.
