Norton started the game brightly, trying to play a quick game getting their backs moving with any ball won and in the initial scrummage exchanges, Norton's forwards held firm. This prompted Old Bristolians to beef up their already massive pack. This made it very hard to win good ball, especially as the line-out was misfiring.
The half was all about the defences, with both sides having to work hard in their own territory to protect their line. At the end of the half, both defences held firm with the score at half-time, 0–0.
Early in the second half, Old Bristolian's large pack made the most of the slight slope and stiff breeze to power over for the game's first score. This try was converted. The home side continued to keep the pressure on, with Norton's forwards constantly having to defend. The backs tried to attack whenever they got the ball, but were always on the back foot and deep in their own half.
All this pressure eventually led to a second score for the home side which was converted, taking the score to 14–0.
In the last quarter, Norton's fitness started to show and they were finally able to put pressure on the home side's line. This pressure allowed Jamie Gimson to finally drive over the line after a couple of phases, following a line-out, to score a try for Norton, but unfortunately Moon was unable to convert.
