Mitchell Braithwaite represented Norton Radstock Amateur Boxing Club at a recent show in Bromyard and did not disappoint.

Boxing in his second skills bout, Mitch showed heart, superior fitness and great technique to all in attendance that were there supporting their hometown boxers.

Boxing with great confidence, Braithwaite was not holding back with his go forward style, prompting the Referee once or twice to instruct Mitch to pull his punches in order to keep the action controlled.

Head Coach, Sean Jenkins, said: “Mitch impressed me with his boxing skills today. I thought all the hard work in recent months really shone through in this bout – it is by far the best bout he has produced, and it has also demonstrated to me that he is not far away from having his first competitive bout.

“I was pretty impressed with Mitch’s fitness levels throughout the three rounds – no disrespect to his opponent, but there was a big difference in that department. I think one more skill and he will be ready. It is important to keep your boxer level- headed – it is up to me to keep him on a sensible high and not take that jump too early.”

At the recent Riviera Box Cup competition in Torquay, Cameron Walker came away with a hard-earned bronze medal for his efforts.

“Boxing for the first time in a national open event like this was a great experience for Cameron and to come away with a medal was a great reward,” adds Sean.

“He was up against a lad who, at the end of the day, was just too good for Cameron, but in return was up against a lad in the Final who had represented England on several occasions – so it just goes to show the level of competition Cameron was amongst.

“It was a great learning experience for both Cameron and myself, and something for Cameron to aspire to. I have a great team of competition boxers in the camp, who all train extremely hard, and I have been really pleased with their recent outings, so I’ll be looking to push them on in 2020 – watch this space!”
