MyStyle Gym in Chilcompton has become something of a hotbed for weightlifting talent, with three of its local patrons being recognised across the country, and even further afield.

Darrel Swift, 45 years-old, lives in Westfield and won his category at the British Powerlifting Finals on 2nd September, claiming British records in the squat and bench press. He qualified through the South West qualifier back in February.

Mike Bishop, 37 years-old from Chilcompton, came second place at the World’s Strongest Disabled Man competition, claiming the world record for an atlas stone lift. He qualified through being crowned Britain’s Strongest Disabled Man back in May.

Nicola Baker, 33 years-old, became sixth place in Britain’s Stongest Woman on 7th October. Nicola qualified first through Southern England’s Strongest Woman, and then through England’s Strongest Woman in August.

All three athletes have been training at MyStyle Gym in Chilcompton for the past three-to-four years, often training between three and five days a week.

The gym’s owner, Simon Rawlins, said: “All of this is quite amazing, as we are a small gym in a small town.”
