Mendip’s season ended as it began, with an excellent whole team performance and victory over Salisbury. Determined to finish on a high, Mendip took the game to their opponents from the outset, pressing high and moving the ball quickly. Salisbury soaked up the early pressure, and scored against the run of play with a counter-attacking move midway through the first half. Mendip responded with a goal from Katie Riches, following some super passing by Sammy Chivers and Hayley Young.

Mendip took the lead early in the second half, with Young putting the finishing touch to a neat penalty corner routine. Cherilyn Carey looked to have added her name to the scoresheet with a fine penalty stroke, only to see it chalked off by the umpire for a technical infringement. The result was sealed when Charlene Vranch struck from the top of the D to put Mendip two goals clear.

Salisbury sneaked a further goal in the dying seconds, but Mendip took the three points to ensure a top four finish in East Division. Fittingly, Captain April Callow received the Player of the Match vote for her tenacity in defence and composure in attack.
