CLIFTON ROBINSONS 3rds 1 MENDIP LADIES 0

Mendip battled an army of Clifton youngsters on Saturday, with the home side boasting a squad of some seventeen players.

Ultimately, this proved to be the difference between the sides, as Mendip’s hard-working squad of thirteen matched their hosts for more than an hour, but Clifton struck a killer blow in the dying minutes.

The game saw great performances from Mendip midfielder, Georgie Kelly, and defenders, Cherilyn Carey and April Callow. Kelly made some super driving-runs, and also pressurised Clifton with her terrier-like tackling. The forward line of Jasmine Scott, Maddy Collins, Megan Carey and Charlene Taylor also organised themselves well to keep the ball in the Clifton half, but Mendip could not find a way through the defence.

Clifton continued to rotate their players throughout the game, and, as Mendip began to tire, Clifton capitalised by forcing a short corner with just five minutes remaining. A fierce shot from the top of the D rattled the Mendip backboard to secure three points for the hosts, and leave Mendip rueing missed opportunities.

This Saturday, Mendip are at home to Firebrands from 1.30 p.m. at Chew Valley Sports Centre.
