MENDIP LADIES 2 BRIDGWATER 2

Mendip saw a two-goal lead slip through their fingers on Saturday, as they were held to a draw by a physical Bridgwater side.

After an edgy start, Mendip took the lead when Georgie Kelly reacted fastest to a penalty corner rebound to fire home. Katie Riches doubled the lead, showing great persistence to beat the Bridgwater keeper on the reverse after her initial shot had been saved.

Mendip continued to look strong into the second half, with Megan Carey and Jasmine Scott both coming close to increasing the lead.

However, Bridgwater were determined to get back into the game, and put in some aggressive tackles to regain possession of the ball. Knocked off balance in every sense, Mendip conceded two late goals, leaving the game drawn and the league points shared.

Mendip’s Player of the Match vote went to midfielder, Katie Riches, and defender, Anna Swift.

Mendip take a break from League hockey for the festive period, with action in the West Womens’ Hockey League Central Division resuming on Saturday, 19th January with a home fixture against Knowle at 1.30 p.m.
