Mendip made an excellent start to their East Division campaign with a comfortable win at Salisbury. After an assured start, Mendip took the lead through youngster, Jasmine Scott, who made a typically speedy run into the D to find a crucial finishing touch.
Salisbury snuck an equaliser against the run of play after a quick break down the right. Charlene Vranch then scored to put the visitors back ahead just before the break.
Vranch used her pace and strength on the reverse to make it 3–1 in the first minute of the second half. Mendip looked set to score at will, but it was Salisbury who were next on the score sheet, converting a contentious penalty corner with a well-worked move.
Mendip then cut loose, with Hayley Bullock finding the backboard from a penalty corner, before Vranch completed her hat trick. Charlotte Lucas made it 6–2 following some excellent work by player of the match, Jess Smith, down the right.
With seconds remaining, Amy McGowan worked hard to get onto the end of a super passing move and slotted the ball home to score Mendip’s seventh and final goal of the game.
This Saturday, Mendip hope to carry this momentum into a tricky away fixture at Wimborne (12 noon).
