In fourth place with a net 58, after countback, were Richard Bull/Matt and Steve Rawlings/Wayne Spencer. Third went to Simon Grant/David Kent/Chris White/Simon Wynn, leaving, in second place, with 56, Jeremy Lawrence/Trevor Messenger/Colin and Nigel Wiltshire. However, clear winners, with an amazing twenty under par score of net 51, were Clayton Merrett/Spencer Pocock/Kyle Shepherd/Luke Weatherall.

The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin ended in a tie between Chris Butland and Michal Rokitowski.

Thirty-nine ladies played in the 18 hole stableford. Division Three saw the best score of the day, 36 points, scored by Ann Padley with Pauline Williams second with 29 points. Division Two saw a win for Hilary Rowdon with 32 points, beating Alison Kay after countback. Division One saw Ladies Captain Elect, Aimee Sawyer, now playing off +4 winning with 33 points with Chris Old in second place with 31.

Lulu Carolan and Margaret Allen were Mendip’s qualifiers this year in the Daily Mail Foursomes event and they completed a fine win over a pairing from Farrington the match ending on the 23rd hole! They were advised by the newspaper that nationally theirs, not surprisingly, was the longest match!

Mendip Seniors held a shotgun start for their Singles Stableford and sixty-four seniors took part. All the competitors found the conditions fairly challenging, which was reflected in the low scoring.

Division One went to Kevin Carmody with 32 points after countback from outgoing Seniors Captain, Alan Edwards, with Bryan Lewis third with 31 points. The winners of Division Two, with 30 points, could not be separated by countback and they were Chris Giles and David Jackson with John Treeby also on 30 points in third place. The Veterans’ Prize went to Peter Rumming, with 27 points, with James Boyce second with 26 points after countback from Robert Stanton.

The first Seniors’ match away to Sherborne saw a burst of warm spring sunshine and a course in excellent order. A fine win was achieved, 4–2. Successful partnerships were Selwyn Rees/Kevin Murphy, Seniors’ Captain Steve Davis/Norman Squire, Mike Snaith/Terry Carter and Simon Brand/Nigel Brokenshire. Mendip is also delighted to announce that Ian Hall has been selected to play for the Somerset County Seniors Team.

The Seniors’ Dinner took place and a very convivial club house enjoyed an excellent meal prepared by Chef Jess and her team. Outgoing Seniors’ Captain, Alan Edwards, gave a resume of his year and presentation of the various cups for 2021 took place. Overall, a very enjoyable occasion. Tony Williams
