The second over saw Paul Evans remove the experienced Brian Storey as the Methodists got off to a good start, which got even better as another batsman perished shortly afterwards. A brief recovery followed before more wickets started to fall - three more batters mis-timing shots off the bowling of Daniel Shearn (4-19), which were snaffled by the waiting fielders.

Harry Storey and Tommy Caie put on 22 for the sixth wicket, but were respectively bowled by David Baker (2-14) and Laura Snook a few overs later, as the visitors slumped to 70-7. Another 21 runs were then doggedly scraped together by the tail-enders, but Long Ashton's innings was finally all over with 56 balls remaining un-bowled, as they posted what seemed an under-par 91 at tea.

The Methodists' reply began brightly, with Alex Nash and Matt Kerr putting on 27 runs in seven overs, but things then started to go awry as the batting order emulated the visitors' earlier display, and catching practice ensued. Callum Powell picked up a five-fer as the home side's innings began to implode, and the slide might have continued if not for the calm head of veteran batsman Stuart Green (27*). In tandem with Snook, he added a crucial 26 runs for the seventh wicket, which - combined with his excellent wicket-keeping earlier in the contest - surely made him the man-of-the-match. With nine overs to spare, he and Paul Evans saw the hosts over the finishing line for a three-wicket win, in what turned out to be a very close game.

Methodists' next game - Bristol Uni Staff Seconds (away) on 2nd July.
