Midsomer Norton welcomed Frome back to Norton Down after many seasons playing in different leagues, with the home side playing down the slope. The players were hoping to put their recent form behind them and put together a decent game against their nearest rivals. Both sides started well with the initial exchanges being equal, but as the game progressed, the home side started to win the collisions. Winning the breakdowns provided ball, both to attack with and to relieve pressure when Frome attacked.
From a line-out just outside the Frome 22, Norton won the ball and set up a maul. This gave the home
forwards the platform to start driving to their opposition line, with the home Captain comfortably in control at the back of the maul, the home forwards crashed over for the first score. This was converted by full back, Ben Taylor.
Unfortunately, soon after, Norton's centre, Jack Rowles, had to leave the field, suffering from a cut to his eye after clashing heads with a Frome player.
After a bit of a reshuffle, Hooker, James Fuller, took up the centre position and following a series of drives from the forwards, the ball was span out and the new centre broke through a few tackles to crash over for the second score, giving Norton a twelve-point lead into the half-time break.
Frome started the second half much brighter, hoping to use the slope to their advantage and they scored a converted try after ten minutes by crashing through the defending centres.
Norton responded to Frome scoring by immediately putting together a concerted attack on the visitors' 22, Frome knocked the ball on, giving Norton a scrum. Frome's forwards competed well and made it hard for the Norton eight to get a clean ball. Captain, Matthew
Denning, picked up the loose ball, drew the visitors' blindside winger and offloaded to Lee Withers. The winger still had a lot to do, but managed to scramble over the line for the last score. Norton tightened up their defence and were able to snuff out numerous Frome attacks on their five-metre line, allowing them to clear their lines and reventing the visitors adding to their score.
This was a much improved performance and the game ended with a 19–7 win for the home side.
